Chapter 2

[65 years before Otherworld]

Isabo squirmed uncomfortably. Her heat cycle was coming on her fast. Although it did not hit her as hard as it hit the majority of male demons in this world, it was still a force to be reckoned with, and it lasted much longer. Pregnancy was the only relief, however, relief from the heat was usually only replaced by the usual morning sickness, hormonal changes, and body changes as another’s life takes control of her body. This was not her first cycle so at least she knew what to expect, but mating outside of her species did involve an element of risk. Her search for other unicorns was in vain. She had no choice but to mate outside her species. Humans were safe enough as long as they didn’t discover what she was, but the offspring were usually weak and the mating was always short term. There was a better chance for strong offspring and a long-term relationship with a humanoid demon. She was immortal but she did not like being alone. She wanted a mate and a family. This is why she had searched so hard for just the right demon.

This time it was a dog demon that had caught her fancy. Apparently he was the Lord of all the clans, a fitting mate, she thought. It was only a couple of weeks left for her to formulate a plan. She found him one day only because she was curious as to why human girls would sit on a boulder at the edge of a cliff watching for something or someone. She saw them one day and decided to wait and watch them.

Isabo’s first sight of Lord Inutaishou was in the light of the full moon.

In any humanoid terms he was gorgeous. His long white hair, demon markings and golden eyes were complimented by his strength and refinement. She had not seen beauty like his since she last saw her own species. It was easy to see why the giggly human girls gathered to watch him. She also sensed that his spirit was different than most demons. He knew the girls were there and slowed his pace just enough so they could enjoy the view.

This was the one, she decided, if he lived up to her high expectations. She secretly followed Inutaishou as only a unicorn could. She discovered as she watched him travel his land, that he had a genuine concern for others. By the end of the two weeks, she knew she had found the future father of her children.

A week later she was still following him. She was in full heat now and to be just following behind him was like enduring slow torture. He never paused in his travels, so there was no way to form attachments with him. The only way she would even get him to pause and notice her would be to throw herself into his path and hope he stopped. She had enough pride to detest that method. She was ready for him but it was now obvious that she had to wait for him to also go into heat before anything would happen. She was emitting pheromones that should help bring him in out of season. Her proximity to the demon lord surely must be affecting him by now. She noticed that the Lord had picked up his pace. She also noticed that he seemed irritated and restless. She adjusted her sight to see his aura and it was registering hotter than normal. It’s time, she thought. Her own heart started beating faster with excitement and anticipation. After she had conceived their first child, she hoped that she could get the demon lord to take her as a mate. She knew she was in love with him. She had been in love before and knew the signs. What surprised her was the strength of the love she was feeling, despite the haunting fear of rejection. That evening the crescent moon rose early, well before sunset. She took it as an omen of good fortune and knew at least this mating, even if it was their last, would be blessed.

She cantered ahead of the demon and found a grassy slope just to the side of the path he was taking. She transformed into a beautiful woman with long wavy white blond hair. Her humanoid form had a shapely body that would attract any humanoid male, and many females for that matter. She altered her transformation again slightly from a human-like appearance to a humanoid dog demon. Slight demon markings appeared on her cheeks, breasts, hips, and ankles and she gave herself fangs. Her eyes were still sky blue and her ears were naturally pointed, unlike when she was trying to blend in with humans. A star shape mark on her forehead was a mark that was always there regardless of her form. It was the representation of her horn. She stood nude on the hill. Normally she would have gathered the elements around her to clothe herself but her goal that night was copulation. Clothing was a hindrance. She sat in the grass and then laid back. She made her skin tan and she decided to make her hair color quite a bit darker than normal so it would match closer to her skin tone. Her hair covered her breasts allowing only a hint of what was beneath. She bent her legs and let her toes kneed the grass. She closed her eyes and let herself feel the wind and the sun on her bare skin. In her natural unicorn form the elements just didn’t feel like this. Wind does not feel the same through a hair type coat. She liked being in humanoid form.

A shadow fell over her. At first she thought it was a cloud for she hadn’t heard him approach but then she heard his breathing, strong and heavy, just short of panting. She opened her eyes and smiled at what was one of the most beautiful sights she had ever seen. He was backlit by the last of the evening sun with the clouds in the sky turning yellow, orange and red. The color reflected off his white hair, which had come loose and was now falling down around his shoulders and face. She noticed for the first time, the blue crescent moon marking on his forehead. How had she missed that? She had a sudden insight to his remarkable beauty and power. So, my lord, your kind has crossed with our species before.

He stood there trying hard to control the urge to take this beautiful woman right then and there. It was not the right time for his heat. He was always careful to time his wonderings so he was back at the den when the lust hit him. This sudden heat hit him far ahead of schedule and with no chance of reaching a den in time to relieve his need. He was rushing to a cave that was just a short distance further when he came upon her. She appeared to be a dog demon but he didn’t know her. He knew all the female dog demons in this region. None of them ever inspired him to do anything more than relieve his lust. He had no mate. Now, in the most unlikely of places, here was the vision of his dreams, appearing naked, in the height of his need, and she was smiling at him. He knew his need was obvious. She reached an arm toward him, inviting, and his body was ready to overwrite all the hows and whys. He picked her up and continued toward the cave.

She didn’t expect to be picked up and carried away. She thought he would have her there on the grassy hill. She knew he wanted to. She could feel his manhood struggling to be freed from his silk trousers just below her buttocks. She found it surprisingly stimulating. She wondered how long he was going to make both of them suffer like this. She turned her head to see where they were traveling to and saw his goal. A cave. She smiled. She will be able to enjoy the pleasure of him in privacy, maybe even more than once. She tensed with the pleasant sense of anticipation. He felt the tensing and looked at her. She smiled at him and touched his face, drawing it down for a kiss. He resisted her with a puzzled look. He was still a Lord and he knew nothing of this woman. He slowed and stopped at the cave entrance. Set her on her feet, he stood there panting. “Who are you?” he asked.

“Isabo” she responded.

“Why?” was all he could get out of his next question.

“I want you to be the father of my children.” She felt there was no reason to hide the fact.

“Don’t know you,” he managed to say.

“I’m not from around here,” she said. She reached up and stroked his face. “I came here to hunt for a mate. I saw that you were in heat and I want you. No one compares to you where I came from. If a mate is not what you wish, at least let me ease your need.”

He grabbed her arms and pulled her to him. He cradled her head in his hands as he kissed her, softly at first but growing stronger as she kissed him back. They tasted each other and found it sweet as the current of passion ran down their spines. The end of the kiss left both of them panting and wanting more. She took his hand in hers. He looked into her intensely blue eyes catching the last of the sunset. He felt he was drowning in those eyes, so much so, he didn’t even hear her question until she repeated it.

“What is your name?”

No ‘my lord’, no acknowledgment of title or rank. She was addressing him on equal terms. He saw the star on her forehead and knew then that she was his equal and worthy of bearing his heirs.

“Inutaishou” he responded

“Inutaishou” she repeated, smiling again at him. She turned and led him into the cave. She released his hand and continued on a bit further. Suddenly the cave was alit with light from a small fire. She had found some wood and the remainder of a campfire probably left by some traveling human, although a human traveling in the Demon World would be extremely foolhardy. Maybe it was a humanoid demon instead. In any case, it saved her from the chore, gave her the light she needed and it let her continue with the wonderful task at hand.

They joined together and became one in body and soul.

After their lovemaking, Isabo laid with Inutaishou arms around her and she felt complete. She was happier right now than she had ever been before.

“You say that you are willing to bear my children,” he asked “You also said you were hunting for a mate. Will you be willing to be my mate?”

She snuggled deeper and gripped the arms encasing her. “Are you sure? You don’t even know me,” she said.

“From the moment I first saw you, I knew you were the one I’ve been waiting for,” he said. “Will you be my mate?”

“Yes” she said, “for as long as I can be.”

He wondered what that meant but didn’t really care. She turned and kissed him.  Somehow, he felt that his life had just made a big change and it would never be boring again. He got the answer he wanted to hear from her. Nothing else mattered to him now. Nothing mattered but her, his mate; his Isabo.
